As I recall this area was set up for container loading onto railway wagons. Seen here in 2005, the shed in the background was possibly the old railway premises at Sockburn. The building still exists but has long been out of railway use. At the time the photo was taken it was occupied by Phoenix Freight and still had a siding into the premises, although this appeared to be disused.
This yard area has now been commercially redeveloped and built on.
